Having no formal training with brush or traditional paints, I decided to use
paint markers and ink on drywall, which provides a hard, smooth surface and can
easily be cut into any size. With more experimentation, I have begun to add
acrylic, enamel and metallic paints with brushes, as well as working more with
canvas. The images hold well with lightfast paints and the drywall is durable
and sealed with silicone sealant.
To me, the imagery has always been the result of my subconscious. When I am in the moment and without thought, the images easily create themselves -- usually in the forms of creatures and symbols. I believe my paintings have a similarity to Oceanic, Asian and African art, although these have never had a direct influence on my work.
